I am so pleased to see that my video contribution
"Myrtleville. a world of memories", has come second to "Mrs.
Porteous" on the Myrtleville list, close to your wonderful and
beautiful site..

To Garry Crowley.
Thank you for your wonderful videos. So many memories of Myrleville to fountainstown. Spent my summers in Poulgorm in the 40's and 50's. At Upper Deck, the bungalow with the dome

Saw your website, been remembering the merries with Garry Cowley! We visited many years ago but would love to come back and visit again soon.

Taking my holidays now in South Africa, but missing Myrtleville none the less.

Audrey

hi everyone,
used to know a lot of people from
Myrtleville.

Dear Suzanne, I had the same
experience last summer in Poll
Gorm. I did get down but with the
aid of a hiking stick. Actually
Kayaking in there is the
easiest..if you have one!
Myrtleville and Poll Gorm are the
places of my dreams of long ago. If
you are interested, you (and and
any other Crosshaven adorer), might
like to see the short video I did
about my longing for that lovely
place. |google Myrtleville,
crosshaven. A world of memories.
Good luck. Never know we might pass
by each other in Bunnys without
knowing it!!

tried to take my two kids to poulgorm yesterday, havn't been down there for a few years but was really suprised to find that its practically impossible to reach from the top road, slid down the cliff path to the top of the steps, looked down to find bottom steps missing, so wouldn't take the chance, thought i'd take the kids back through path to Bunny's but that has been blocked off. Can remember as a kid being down there most days in the Summer, now it seems that my two won't be able to experience the fun that I had.

Hi all,

Nice site. I'm a radio documentary
maker and will be in Cork next week
(Feb 2-5) to record interviews on
the subject of the demise of the
foghorn.

I know from personal experience
that the foghorn was almost like
the soundtrack toi Myrtleville at
times. I'm hoping to explore
peoples reaction to its closing,
inquire about any resonances it may
hold for people and ask simply if
people will miss it?

Anyone with anything to say please
contact me at:

theboyjazz@gmail.com or text

Myrtleville......... wow that place brings back brilliant
memories. I grew up in Myrtleville. Lived there till i was
about 19 years old. I am 38 now living in New York and
wishing to win the lotto and buy a summer house there.
When i go back to Ireland i always love to visit
Myrtleville. It is so funny you dont appreciate a place
until you dont have it anymore. Myrtleville will always
be my home!!!!!!!

Hi,

My family had a holiday in Cork many years ago (1979), and i have been searching google earth for 3 years to find the exact spot where we stayed.

I think i have found it.. and may have been helped by reading the messages on this site.

Did o' regans field once have three brick bungalows and a couple of wooden type bungalows (wooden type were facing the sea).

Street view on google earth has twigged memories.. the steep hill up from the little beach inlet and a turn right up that hill.

Could somebody please confirm i have found where we stayed all those years ago.

Many thanks,

Niall Lewis (Co Wicklow)

I see on your homepage that a bus from Cork City goes near Myrtleville. I presume that it's the 222, if so what stop is the nearest to the village?

Please advise if you can.

Many thanks,

W

Hi everyone!! Many of my most precious childhood memories centre round Myrtleville and my cousins the Floyds! Every chance I got I was on the train from county Meath to the beautiful destination! All those summer mornings running down to the beach with our peanut butter sandwiches & Miwadi orange, which were always warm and soggy but lunch when we unvoluntarily left the water to eat! Unfortunately the Floyds moved away to the States but Auntie Maevis was home in June & we took a roadtrip to Myrtleville which was very nostalgic! Still has the same draw and tug on my heart. Just thought I'd share a little memory...Lorraine

Roberta! You love Myrtleville so much. I understand that. I do too. I suppose that times have moved on. I was a boy there 60 years ago and have been in love with the place ever since. You are right . I ought to stop moaning and continue to enjoy it. Thanks Garry.
